A quick summary of the fantastic Book of John:
The action starts at the beginning of time as we know it. The Book of John reveals Jesus true origin. Next, John the Baptist is on the scene dunking people in a river saying he’s making the way straight for Jesus arrival. Before you know it, Jesus is in the water getting dunked by John. John points Him out, tells his followers, follow Jesus instead, He’s the one for which we’ve been waiting.
A wedding party that runs out of wine. How embarrassing. BAM! Miracle. Jesus provides. The first miracle is wine!
Swindlers at the synagogue; Jesus gets physical & whips some tail! Jesus teaches; breaks down barriers with women; foreign women no less! Followers aren’t sure of His actions, but Jesus keeps working miracles, and says He’s the ultimate authority, straight from God. From there, It’s on!
Feeds 5,000, heals the blind and the lame, demonstrates control over nature, and explains He is the true bread of life. People start deserting, saying His teaching is too difficult. He asks his core group, are you leaving too? After seeing Him do the impossible, they ask, where would we go! No one can do what you’ve done!
He attends religious festivals and teaches. People continuously argue and disagree about Him, and those in control get jealous, even angry because of who He says He is. Then He tells those closest to Him that He will be assassinated.
They try to test Him and catch Him breaking the law, but He continues to heal. He makes such bold claims as to His origin, they want to kill Him. He calls them out and they’re ready to take Him, but can’t. The time is not yet right. He leaves.
Then He brings a friend back from death. His popularity increases, and He tells those closest to Him, that one of them will betray Him, and another will deny he even knows Him. He then teaches them the lesson of service above self and that a true friend will lay down his life for his friends. After hitting them with all that, He says don’t worry about the future, all of this is supposed to happen. He prays to God for himself, His disciples, and everyone else that believes in their eyewitness testimony.
The murder plan unfolds. Local authorities scheme with one of Jesus followers to have Him arrested. With Judas help, they ambush Him in a secret garden and arrest Him. He’s brought to trial immediately and witnesses have been paid to falsify testimonies.
He’s convicted, sentenced, tortured, abused, and beaten. The court tries to release Him, but those wanting to kill Him incite a riot seeking His immediate execution! The authorities are intimidated by the crowd, so they give Him to the Roman soldiers to be killed. He’s executed and dies. They bury Him. When He was alive, He said death couldn’t hold Him.
They put two armed guards at the entrance to his grave to make sure no one could get in or out! Three days later, the grave is open and He’s gone. The guards are executed for failing to do their job. A woman sees Him alive first.
He appears to 10 of His closest friends behind locked doors the next day! On twelve occasions, over the next 40 days, He’s seen by over 500 eyewitnesses!
That’s a quick snapshot of the Book of John, but there’s much, much more. The author said he wrote the book so anyone who reads it would know Jesus is truth! And the real clencher is, He said He’s coming back! And the time is closer now than when you started reading this.
